Laughter Adds 8 Years

P.S. We had the following conversation today at the game...

John: "You know what the best thing is about having a kid?"

Lindsey: "What?"

John: "If I catch a foul ball, I don't have to give it to any kid."

Lindsey: "Why not?"

John: "Because I can just give it to my kid."

And the crazy part is -- I believe him. He probably does put "can give a caught foul ball" on his Top Ten List of Reasons to Have a Kid. And that's why I love him...

Home Depot, maybe Bed Bath and Beyond... I just don't know if we are going to have enough time...

Sometimes I think Jack gets more food on himself and his clothes than in his tummy. I would honestly say that in of all of our many months of parenting Jack, feeding cereal is the 2nd* most frustrating task I have had to tackle. Fingers in the mouth, food back out of the mouth, bobbing head, food on me, etc.** Though he smiles so much throughout the whole thing it is hard to get too frustrated with him.

*Obviously sleep was no. 1, but he is sleeping from 8PM-7AM these days, so that is cake now.

**It really isn't that bad, I guess I just need something to blog about? Really my biggest issue with him getting food everywhere is when I have to pick him back up out of the high chair and change outfits - its hard to hold him without getting slimed myself.

Today was a reminder of how different my life has become since marriage and baby. We started out this morning with a 7AM feeding for the Jackal. We then went to the local Farmer's Market for some butternut squash (huh?) that Lindsey could mash into baby food. After the Farmer's Market, we went shopping at Hy-Vee* Then we took off to Babies "R" Us (BRU), Sam's Club, Pottery Barn Kids, and Burlington Coat Factory** THEN, I singlehandedly pulled off the rare double treat of visiting both Home Depot and Lowes for some home improvement items (didn't want anyone to feel left out...). Let's just say that the above-described adventure was not my MO back in the day.

**Did you know that they have a "Baby Depot" at Burlington Coat Factory (BCF)? It has a ton of baby gear. Never knew. This is really good news for us, since the local BRU is like 15 miles away, and BCF is only about about 3. With gas prices (don't even get me started on milk and oj) the way they are, extra driving can add up.

I am SUPER* excited for tomorrow - Jack's first Cardinals game!!! A guy that used to work with Lindsey (and knows I am a Cardinals fan) was kind enough to hook us up with tickets for tomorrow. Even though it is a Royals' home game, the stadium will be about 65% Cardinals fans - just the way it should be! Jack will be decked out in Cardinals attire for sure - getting him started right in life.

A Cooler Weekend

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY

BBQ Ribs, 10K, and More!

While John was freezing in his car at the fairgrounds in Tonganoxie, Kansas, Jack and I were enjoying a lovely night of sleep. Jack 8:30 p.m. - 7 a.m. and I from 9:30 p.m. - 6:30 a.m. Bliss.

We met up with Daddy after he finished the Tonganoxie Days' 10K Run. I couldn't believe he ran the race after his long night, but he did and has a t-shirt (and exhaustion) to prove it. He believes he came in dead last out of the 12 men that ran the 10K, but swears he beat some women. We didn't make it in time to see him cross the finish line, but after looking at some of the contestants eating the free food afterwords, I believe him :)

We all had fun walking around Tongy Days. Jack saw his very first swine show and wood carving contest. He was a real show stopper (I'm not bias at all) and received a few free balloons to tie onto our stroller. He giggled at the balloons, which made me happy :) John had been "helping" with The Burning Sensations' BBQ all evening and morning, so we had to stay around to see the finished product. Of what I tasted, it was very good. I guess the judges didn't agree....oh well, the leftovers were tasty tonight for dinner.

4 Month Check-Up

Jack has his 4 months check up with our pediatrician today. I can't believe how fast these first 4 months have gone. It seems like yesterday we were bringing our little sweet pea home and now he is smiling up a storm, rolling from side to side, grabbing and holding on to everything (his favorite ball, my hair, etc) and becoming a little boy.

He is getting more shots today. Pray for us! I have Tylenol ready to go :)

Back from the basement...

The weather has been very strange around our parts this evening, so we've spent a little time in our basement with the dogs. I think they enjoyed the company, even though we didn't really want to be there. Buddy gets very nervous during thunderstorms and he really put on a show for us tonight -- heavy, heavy panting, shaking, extra slobber and a few wimpers. An Oscar-like performance.

I wanted to post a picture that fit our evening's activities, so I pulled out one from our trip to Oklahoma last week. Had to snap one of Jack watching Pappy's favorite television channel: The Weather Channel. After all, Elk City did have a lot of damage from the storms that hit as we pulled into town last Thursady, so he had a good excuse - this time :)

Oklahoma Visit

Jack, Nana and I traveled down to Oklahoma for a mini, 4-day vacation. We had a wonderful time - amidst the storms, loss of electricity, high winds and broken air conditioner. Like always, time went by too fast, but we cherish the memories - especially how GOOD Jack slept. 9 hours every single night!
