Monkey Jack

Happy Halloween!!!

OUR costumes for Halloween 2009. We were a Ghostbuster and a Flapper on Friday night and ..... on Saturday night!

Do you know who? Whom?

Hint: The show is in Season 3 on AMC

Beggars' Night

Our little monkey...

Nothing like the first time...

We have experienced a lot of "firsts" over the last couple weeks, so we thought we'd share. A couple weeks ago I had one of those sweet federal-employee-random-holidays, so I thought it would be a fine time to take Jack to his very first movie ever - Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs . I am not sure which Jack loved more - the movie or my popcorn* - but we made it through the whole movie without an episode. It was definitely considered a win. The pic above is Jack looking at the Where the Wild Things Are poster. Based on Jack's reaction to its trailer, I think we may be making a return trip soon.

*My money is on my popcorn.

J-diggity also rocked his very first tie last week. All the other kids in church nursery were jealous with his preppy-fabulous look.

In addition, J-money got his haircut last sunday! My Aunt Kim was kind enough to come over and give him his first big boy haircut. While we really liked the sweet pseudo-mullett he was sporting, we realized that we lived in Iowa, not Alabama, and wanted him to fit in with the other kids on the playground (peer pressure, you know).

And in case you were worried that Jack is suffering from malnutrition, you will be happy to know that we had a check-up last week. He came in at the 95% for weight, and 75% for height. I think he's doing just right...

70-year-olds 2 - John 0

Some of you may remember my epic 10k performance last summer, where I was soundly beaten by legendary 70 year old half robot?-half man, Herb Brown.*

*In my defense though, I mean, he did run 9:30 miles, and I had slept in the back of my blazer at a BBQ contest the previous night, without sufficient nourishment.

Anyway, I vowed that I would never again be beaten by a 70 year old man again. I vowed that I would regain my pride and whup up on 70 year old butt going forward!!! So with this weekend's 1/2 marathon in mind, I thought to myself: "Self, how many 70 year old men can even run 13.1 miles, let alone beat you?" I then answered back, "Surely none, self."

John Mills - 2 hours 7 minutes - 9:42 miles (My 10k split was at a 9 minute mile pace...which would have beaten old Herb by 2.5 minutes...so take that Herb!)

However, I was only able to hold off 4 of the 5 70 year old men running the half marathon...

David Zimmer - The robots must have upgraded their power, but you and I have a dance with destiny next year. Same time. Same place, sir!*

To make matters worse, apparently 65-69 year old women are now kicking my butt.

*Maybe I need to retire instead. Seriously though, dude is clocking sub 8 minute miles in his 70's? What is in the water in Long Grove, Iowa. He finished in the top 10% of all runners in the half-marathon. Jeesh.... I better get training now.

Joint Baby and Wedding Shower

Last Sunday, October 4th, we hosted a wedding shower for the "Mr. and Mrs." to-be, Brandon and Abbie, and a baby shower for the parents-to-be, Ben and Nikki. It was the PERFECT excuse for TWO cakes. Yum.

I'm happy we chose LAST Sunday for the shower because (DRUM ROLL PLEASE!) Baby Westrope was born yesterday, Saturday, October 10th.

CONGRATS BEN AND NIKKI, Kaleb is so handsome!

It's almost Halloween...

...and Jack is getting ready to carve his pumpkin. It took him awhile to pick out "his" pumpkin, or should I say "pa key" So many choices!

Sunday at The Zoo

While John and I were entertaining at our house for some parents-to-be and a bride and groom-to-be, Nana and Grandpa Denny took Jack to the Zoo for one last time this season. I hear he had a blast :)
