Welcome to the world, Will!

Above is Will's "birthing crew" from Des Moines Fire and Rescue. As you may know, Will's entrance into this world was a bit unusual to say the least. Monday was an interesting day for Lindsey. For the first time in weeks, she had few (if any) contractions. In fact, she felt so good that a mere 3 hours prior to Will's arrival she was out in the yard picking weeds. The rest of the night was uneventful. We got Jack to bed, watched a little tv and then started to go to sleep around 10-10:30 PM. At 11:09PM, Lindsey woke me up and said that her water had just broke, so let's get everything together. She went to go change clothes and then I began to get everything ready in the car. When I came back up to her room a few minutes later, she was keeled over on the bed saying, "I can't do this." Now, I didn't think much of this because when she had Jack she had a little bit of first baby birth fear and said some similar things. However, when she said, "you need to call 911" I was a little taken aback. At first, I definitely did not want to have the ambulance come to our house only to say she was fine and then send us on our way. But she insisted and so I made a wonderfully coherent call to 911*. About 1 minute later, her pain subsisted and I think she started to feel a bit sheepish, but no worries....about 30 seconds after that she was back to being keeled over on our bed.

Des Moines Fire and Rescure came onto the scene shortly thereafter and when they told Lindsey they were going to move her, she was having none of it, saying "I am going to have this baby." They didn't believe her either at first... and then they saw she was crowned. From there on, it was just get the baby out, which happened fairly uneventfully. He did have his cord wrapped around his neck one time, but it was plenty loose to move, so that was not a huge issue.

My favorite quote from the night was Lindsey yelling "I'm not a farm wife. I do not want to deliver in my bed!"

*Apparently 911 does not have our address (or our development) in its database; this made me feel awesome, of course. They must be using yahoo maps or something...good to know. Anyway, I had to give them the a generic block of the street as an address for it get in the system. My neighbor Keith tells me they stopped about a block short of our house initially. Apparently the plan was to knock on everybody's door and see if they were having a baby, until they found the right house? :)

While the whole process felt like an eternity (where the heck* is that ambulance? what could possibly be taking so long?), in reality only about 25 minutes elasped from water breakage to Will's birth. Absolutely crazy. Since they say your kids keep coming faster, I guess I better get in some midwivery classes should we have a 3rd.

*Edited for the children reading :)

Typing this out is kind of exhausting, just as it was Monday night... and I wasn't even the one to give birth to a child without the assistance of medications, proper bed/stirrups, and you know....trained physicians. Lindsey is straight up pretty tough and I have promised never to doubt her regarding what she says about giving birth again!*

*I should have learned my lesson in KC.

Anyway, here is Will and some of his first visitors!!! We'd love to get some with you all when you get the chance to meet him. Shout out to my Aunt Amy, who I did not get a picture of holding Will. We had a crazy 2.5 year old in the room and I was distracted. Sorry :(
