Today is Easter, and the first day we have ventured to church with Jack. We would have liked to get him to church earlier, but its just not very easy getting everybody ready to go, getting there and back, and doing it without incident in the 3 hour blocks of time upon which we now base our lives. It was also our first day of church at Heartland Community Church (http://www.heartlandchurch.org/). We have been through at least 10 churches in KC since we moved here - and for various reasons (read: I am very hard to please) have moved on from each.
Anyway, our visit to the new church started off with a bang: We had pop-culture references to the "bad-bosses" as set-forth in the subject line above; we had a cover song of Matchbox20's "Push"; and the Pastor tied it all together in a Pontius Pilate, Tiberias Cesar, and Jesus "boss" analogy. The title of the Sermon was "Authority," and they had a very creative graphic that could be flipped up or down and still spell "Authority" - bonus points for that...
Heartland scored an 8.0 (out of 10) on our initial visit. The above-mentioned pop-culture references were gravy, they had good worship/praise songs like the new Amazing Grace arrangement, The Wonderous Cross, and best of all... no weird uncomfortable group prayers. Hopefully they continue to bring "it" to the sunday morning table.
Jack scored a 10 out of 10 on his first church experience - he made it through the whole service without a peep. What a champ!
